Best Practice Notes

Coordinator. English Language Notes

Rebecca LAWSON , Email: rlawson@rock-hill.k12.sc.us

Background

Who-Am-I? contains various collections of best practices for teachers, including:

In addition, there are likely to be several past reports and testimonials published through the various Who-Am-I? adult moderator/teacher lists.

Goals

  1. Redesign the English language FAQ/Teacher tips page to become a Who-Am-I? portal of best practice stories.
  2. At the top of the redesigned page, include a navigation area.
You might to want this by simply listing the titles of the various stories, sorted by area.
  3. Include forms to capture user-submitted stories the way this is being done in the resource pages' listings to allow for a dynamic growth of this resource. Example: http://www.kidlink.org/kie/nls/english/response/resources.html

Work strategies

  • Only work on enhancing the English language pages. Only report stories available in English.
Some best practice stories may be made by links to already prepared web pages, on our web, or elsewhere. Links to stories in other languages should be made on the other languages' equivalent web pages, if available. If not available, entries may be temporarily be made here (listed under language name). - You may want to translate some stories originated in other language to include them in the English language collection.

Each module offers a resource page to help teachers and students get more out of the program. Best practice pages should not be mixed with these. Keep all best practice pages as part of the FAQ pages.

  • Help recruit volunteers in other language areas to develop this resource there.
  • Rebecca to receive "ownership" of the /kie/nls/english/resources/ directory. She will maintain a list of who maintains what page at the dirinfo.html.
  • Link to other language areas' FAQ pages for stories available in other languages (but, only in cases where such stories exist beyond the original source text).
  • Promote the use of this resource to support Kidlink's other projects (rather than project managers' "reinventing the wheel")
  • Involve our adult users at large to contribute to the resource
  • Motivate Who-Am-I? coordinators in other languages to work in parallel on FAQs in their languages. (Do this through the WAI-CORD and WAILA-COORD lists.) This includes the leaders of all the adult lists.
  • Recommend what "must" be translated into other participating languages to Odd de Presno.
Translation is a major challenge, so we must recommend a small selection to be translated.
  • Prepare a web page for translators explaining what they are to do. This page to be posted as part of the Translators' Portal.
Note: Suggest improvements/simplification of pages about translations of Who-Am-I? in the translators' directory.
