Before translating your first page,
read this!
Read our
note for new
translators. Then, save the first page to translate as explained
in 2 below. Mail us the page you saved on your disk
(before translating anything), so that we can see that it has been
saved correctly. Continue from 3 below when we have
given our go ahead.
If the page to translate is called
index.html, check with us if special guidelines exist for translation
of its contents. Some index.html page translations are to be reduced in scope.
Example:
Guidelines
for translating /english/general/index.html
-
Save the page
to translate on your local disk
-
From 1st or 2nd menu of Dreamweaver, select
"Save as" to save the page to your local work folder (on your PC).
-
A "Save As" window
opens. Adjust the File Type setting to
"Web Page, html only"
.
-
Click at at
"Save" using the same "File name" as the original.
For example, save
1STQUESTION.html
as 1STQUESTION.html. Important:
Do
not translate directory and file
names!
Hint: Your translations may be completed faster
if you store pages in matching directories (or folders) on your harddisk.
Example: Store http://www.kidlink.org/english/general/overview.html at
c:\spanish\general\ overview.html (on your C drive) if translating
into Spanish.
-
Check
if you saved the page correctly.
-
Open the file
you saved on your disk for editing.
-
With
the page in the editor, set the language on the page to your
language.
Select "Options" [if Windows user] or
"Preferences" [if Macuser] from your menus [or Page Properties]
and to select the preferred character set from "Document Encoding"
menu.
Translate
the page's title and page description so that the page will be reported
correctly by Google and other search engines in your language.
. Save the document before proceeding.
Note: For some languages, this may not
be enough. In our translations into
Gujarati, the fonts are "imported"
from an external server to be viewed properly.
