Finished sending your invitation to the the
KidComWho-Am-I? room? Got any invitations?
Now it is time to read through the invitations
and find out where you want to go on vacation. There are lots of things you
have to think about when travelling and you will certainly get to know many
new things.
Maybe you would like to go to a special place
and have not got an invitation from there? Please, search for kids from that
place who have answered the four questions inKidlink's
Member Archive.
Can you learn from their answers what you need
to know? You can also write to the
KidComWho-Am-I? room. Here are some discussion questions but
remember you don't have to answer them all. You choose. You can also add
your own.

Questions
Where would you like
to go? What makes places interesting to you?
Have you travelled
in your own country? What did you find most interesting? What did you like
best?
Have you been abroad?
How did you like that? What did you find most interesting? What did you like
best?
What kind of food is
traditional in the areas that you are travelling to? Do you think you will
like it? Do you think you could survive having to eat food that is different
from what you are used to?
What languages do you
speak? In which countries can you use them? How can you prepare yourself
for a vacation in a country whose language you do not know?
What rules are there
for kids in the places that are offered for visiting? Are they similar to
the rules you are used to at home? Will your parents accept that you follow
those different rules while you are away?
Would someone from
your family want to go with you on the vacation? Is there anything in the
invitations that appeals to your family?
Do you want to visit
a place where you have been before or see a new place?

matter when you plan a vacation?
Do you want to see
homes of famous people, authors, singers or sport-idols?

information than there is in the invitations? How are you going to organise
getting further information and plan your trip?
Can we travel to the
country you have chosen by car or do we have to travel by plane or even go

Classroom
Activities
Work in groups of four
and look the invitations through. Do you all agree? How do you solve a
disagreement? Do you vote? Are there other ways for you to reach a decision?
Compare how long it
takes to go to the places you are interested in. Do you think it matters
how long the trip takes?
Collect the invitations
that interest you most and put them on the billboard to help you to make
the choice.
Create a Venn diagram
of opportunities. Does the place have exciting history, nature, entertainment,
exciting people to visit?
Post requests in the
KidComWho-Am-I? room for further information about places on
the invitations, discuss with your new friends what you could do and if you
have a request ask if it is possible to fulfil it.
Choose a place for
your virtual vacation. Discuss why you would choose this particular place
for your vacation. Find the place on the map and put a flag there. Find out
about the latitude
and longitude of the place you have chosen.
Find the place on the
map. Is it in the northern or in the southern hemisphere? Is it close to
the ocean or is it inland? Do you think the climate is warm or cold? Is there
a great difference
in time between your home and this place?
Go to the school-library
and ask if they have some books about the place you have chosen. Maybe you
can find a CD-ROM with information about countries!
What about the Internet?
I am sure you will be able to find many interesting resources about countries
there! Discuss with others in the
KidComWho-Am-I? room how to choose a country to travel to. Ask
the kids that wrote the invitations, if you want more information. Use the
room.
Set up a budget for
the trip, including transportation, accommodation, food, entertainment, museums,
sport events, etc.
Prepare to present
your choice to your class. When all have prepared their presentations, every
group presents its choice to the class and the class discusses which place
they think is the most exciting to visit. Find out from your budget if you
can afford to go to this place. Then cast your votes.
Each person in the
group has the amount equal to 200 EUROto spend on the trip. Will
it be enough? What can you buy for this amount in the place you are going
to visit?
The whole class or
group doesn't have to go to the same place. Maybe you would like to split
up into two groups and go separate ways.
When you have chosen
where to go as "virtual" tourists, please send your message to the room informing
everybody of your decision.
